Needless to say, its Sridevi’s show all the way as she dominates the screen effortlessly! The beautiful face and the gamut of emotions that play around those gorgeous eyes are a joie de vivre experience. Nevertheless where it matters, she sure does raise and with graceful authoritative aplomb. We have a protagonist in Sridevi who knows her priorities well but at the same time relents only for the overall happiness of her family. That said, Shinde does not over dramatize things or bring in a sympathy factor. And Ms Shinde, take a bow for having delivered a product which is a celebration of life and all things good and positive!Īnd what a comeback for the most beautiful and talented artist of our times! Sridevi’s acumen should be lauded for selecting such a script for her return to the silver screen where she actually belongs.ĮV is an endearing tale of a home maker who gives her heart and soul to her family but seeks just a little respect that she truly deserves.
Debutante Gauri Shinde just does all that is said above with English Vinglish. K.Ĭinema is an entertaining medium that is meant to take the audience through a narrative format within a stipulated time and hence has to engross them, transport them to another world and put the ideas of the film maker into their head and then let them go and think about it or revel in it. So ‘English Vinglish’ gets a thumbs up from us, watch it for Sridevi’s unprecedented performance and beautiful narrative by Gauri Shinde.Sridevi, Ajith, Mehdi Nebbou, Priya Anand, Adil Hussain Her transformation from a conscious housewife to a confident entrepreneur is so evident in the last scene. Every word and every expression of Sridevi in the scene is so balanced. For all those who are a fan of her dancing skills, this is probably the best moment in the film.Īnd the speech: The climax of ‘English Vinglish’ leaves a lump in your throat. At sangeet, she is seen grooving to the Marathi song ‘Navrai Majhi’. The sangeet: Shashi goes to New York to attend her niece’s wedding. That one moment makes her realise what she really wants from life. Laurent takes Sridevi on the top floor of a high rise building she slips and falls into his arms.
That one moment: If you are a fan of typical Bollywood love stories, you will surely love this scene. When Laurent apologises to her, she says, “Itne din baad kisi ne tarif ki.” The smile on her face says it all. Though they don’t understand each other’s language, but the conversation helps them in finding the answers they have been looking for.Įverybody likes compliments: When Laurent subtly confesses his liking for Shashi during the class, she simply walks away. After saying no many times, she finally goes out for a coffee with him. Language is never a barrier: Shashi’s classmate French cook Laurent has a soft corner for her. She repeats the word several times so that she can pronounce it correctly and tell it to her husband. On the first day of her English class, she feels delighted to be called an entrepreneur. Her family often makes fun of her because of the same. Shashi the entrepreneur: While her husband wants her to stop her laddoo business, Shashi calls it her only hobby. Sridevi is fabulous in the scene, which is also a turning point of the film. At a cafe in New York, Shashi Godbole struggles so much to order a sandwich and coffee.
